#EYorksHour | 25th March | Roundup

This week we took inspiration from one of our #EYorksHour networkers and set a theme to re-introduce participants to one another, whilst learning a bit more about what they do as a business, charity or hobby. Using the hashtag #ShowandTell we gave networkers three points of action; tell us, show us and interact with each other. 

As it was a different theme to previous weeks, we’ve decided to share the tweets of networkers introducing themselves to the group, in case you missed them and would benefit from connecting.

Show and Tell

Hello #EYorksHour networkers. 

Welcome back to East Yorkshire Hour!

Have you noticed that last weeks round up hasn’t been posted yet? That’s because our blogspot account was hacked and we have been waiting patiently to gain access. However we don’t want to confuse anyone (in case you don’t know what the roundup is) and instead, we will post that round up with this weeks round up in a few days. 

So you will get to read two roundup’s for the price (it’s free) of one.

One of our regular networkers, @pierce_jo mentioned that now we’ve spent the last few weeks offering advice and discussing various business themed topics, it would be good to learn more about the people in the network and what they do.

The amount of people who participate in #EYorksHour has significantly increased as the weeks pass by, therefore tonight we would like you to re-introduce yourself to the group. Or if you are new to #EYorksHour, then this is prime opportunity for you to say hello.

It’s Tuesday and that can only mean one thing, EYorksHour! 

Last week our networking session was based around the theme of ‘being communal' and after reading the latest figures on British businesses, we tested the theory and it turned out that the participants of #EYorksHour are very communal too. It was said during last week that social media is a great tool for providing support and advice to other local businesses whilst also being able to make effective relationships that benefit both contacts. 

Therefore this week our theme is Social Media. 

According to MediaBistro, twitter handles more search queries than Yahoo or Bing combined. More Facebook profiles (5) are being created every second than there are people being born (4.5). So when you consider facts like these and the potential for reaching a wider target market, how do you then go about using social media? 

In addition to our usual networking fun, tonight we have enlisted the help of @AbstractEM to provide you with live support and advice for all of your social media questions. All you have to do, is send them a tweet and they will get straight back to you with some top notch guidance. For instance, if you want to know how to set up a YouTube channel, they will have the answers. Or if you need advice on the best times to tweet in a day - then just tag @AbstractEM #EYorksHour in your tweet.

#EYorksHour | 11th March | Roundup

#BeingCommunal is about listening to, engaging and connecting with like minded people to generate ideas and lasting business relationships. We found research that suggests 90% of business leaders in Britain tap into and share advice with other businesses. Therefore we took to #EYorksHour to find out how communal our networkers are and it was evident that we are part of a fantastic community, due to the overwhelming amount of responses we received.

How much time do you spend tapping into the wisdom of other people around you?

@ChefmartynShaw: loads, especially as a chef I find inspiration and improvements I can make from everywhere.

Where do you actively find people to help with your business queries and conundrums?

@ManarInfo: I've met great people through networking events - who've then introduced me to others. Got a great deal for my website this way!

@clientmarketyks: We help businesses by helping with the sales and marketing strategy but most importantly by listening to business owners

@S_Fleming12: Networking online is fab for #beingcommunal and sharing info,advice & work. Twitter being most successful for me. 

How does providing #support and #advice to other local businesses help your business? 

@clientmarketyks: It is nice to follow the #giversgain philosophy by helping others and to have referrals and reciprocal business as a result

@ManarInfo: helps me to always develop and improve my own practices...helped a local women's group with business planning today. Inspired me

@DMP_Surveying: we have a day of yr10 mock interviews tomorrow at Hornsea high, hoping to help the students understand interviews

Have you found networking in an environment such as #EYorksHour makes you more communal?

@ManarInfo: Yes definitely...sat in the comfort of my own home but am connecting and hearing about businesses across the area ;)
