#EYorksHour | 25th March | Roundup

This week we took inspiration from one of our #EYorksHour networkers and set a theme to re-introduce participants to one another, whilst learning a bit more about what they do as a business, charity or hobby. Using the hashtag #ShowandTell we gave networkers three points of action; tell us, show us and interact with each other.

As it was a different theme to previous weeks, we’ve decided to share the tweets of networkers introducing themselves to the group, in case you missed them and would benefit from connecting.

(Please note that note that the #EYorksHour blog doesn’t usually list tweets in this way and is a one off to #ShowandTell the fantastic networkers).

#EYorksHour | 11th March | Roundup

#BeingCommunal is about listening to, engaging and connecting with like minded people to generate ideas and lasting business relationships. We found research that suggests 90% of business leaders in Britain tap into and share advice with other businesses. Therefore we took to #EYorksHour to find out how communal our networkers are and it was evident that we are part of a fantastic community, due to the overwhelming amount of responses we received.

If you missed last weeks #EYorksHour about #Pancaketoppings then please have a read: http://eyorkshour.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/pancake-topping.html

But first things first, Tuesday was also the birthday of dedicated #EYorksHour networker and surface pattern designer @S_Fleming12!

Happy Birthday from @EYorksHour!!

In the spirit of #beingcommunal please take a look at Sarah's website: http://t.co/iSrjHjUSeQ

Being Communal:

Now back to rounding up the hour, and we’ve picked out a collection of tweets that offer an insight into East Yorkshire’s local businesses.

How much time do you spend tapping into the wisdom of other people around you?

@ChefmartynShaw: loads, especially as a chef I find inspiration and improvements I can make from everywhere.

@TaheraMayat: too much ;) worry I may be annoying them! but if they have experience/knowledge may as well use it :)

@beerinabottle: I'm watching and learning from fellow networkers #beingcommunal . Hopefully I'll have more to offer when we get up and running!

@ManarInfo: being relatively new to E yorks I am using local contacts and wisdom to help me build a strong network. Have found it Invaluable

Where do you actively find people to help with your business queries and conundrums?

@SwannAutomotive: we often speak to others in the motor trade if it's a car query, often v.helpful both in person & on twitter

@ManarInfo: I've met great people through networking events - who've then introduced me to others. Got a great deal for my website this way!

@clientmarketyks: We help businesses by helping with the sales and marketing strategy but most importantly by listening to business owners

@S_Fleming12: Networking online is fab for #beingcommunal and sharing info, advice & work. Twitter being most successful for me.

How does providing #support and #advice to other local businesses help your business?

@clientmarketyks: It is nice to follow the #giversgain philosophy by helping others and to have referrals and reciprocal business as a result

@ManarInfo: helps me to always develop and improve my own practices...helped a local women's group with business planning today. Inspired me

@DMP_Surveying: we have a day of yr10 mock interviews tomorrow at Hornsea high, hoping to help the students understand interviews

Have you found networking in an environment such as #EYorksHour makes you more communal?

@beerinabottle: #beingcommunal definitely helps in the #EYorksHour environment. Everyone so friendly and helpful.

@ManarInfo: Yes definitely...sat in the comfort of my own home but am connecting and hearing about businesses across the area ;)

Being Communal

Yesterday we released a short survey to gather feedback from our networks in order to improve the #EYorksHour experience even further. Have your say in how we shape #EYorksHour by completing our simple questions here: http://eyorkshour.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/eyorkshour-feedback.html

In the last 6 weeks @EYorksHour have introduced weekly themes to give participants an opportunity to tweet their contribution. Plus a blog that evaluates each hour, making sure that everyone is updated after missing a week or not being able to keep up will the stream of tweets. But we know that more work can be done to create a networking community and change the behaviours of the tweeps who just pop into the hours to promote their product/service and leave.

Therefore the theme this week is 'Being Communal'.

New research from FundingKnight reveals that 61% of UK business leaders believe that there is a sense of community in British businesses today. 90% tap into and share advice with other businesses associates.

Listening to, working and engaging with like minded people is a great source for generating ideas. 46% said that they actually made their decisions based on gut feelings but 37% said that their best business decisions are made on recommendations and tips from other people.

With one in five (22%) business leaders being part of business clubs or local networking communities, online platforms are providing a more instant channel for businesses to connect with each other. The research showed that email (53%), Twitter (24%) and LinkedIn (22%) are some of the many ways business leaders keep in touch with associates.

Tonight we want to know how communal you are! Please tweet along with your thoughts and opinions between 8pm - 9pm using #EYorksHour and #BeingCommunal in your tweets.

  • How much time do you spend tapping into the wisdom of other people around you?
  • Where do you actively find people to help?
  • What contributions do you like to make?
  • How does providing support and advice help your business?
  • Do you mentor start up businesses?
  • Have you found networking in an environment such as #EYorksHour makes you more communal?

Also if you missed last weeks #EYorksHour then please check out our #pancaketopping round up based around self promotion HERE

Let us know that you are joining in tonight by sending us a tweet or sharing this weeks #EYorksHour spot below.
