#EYorksHour | 18th Feb | Roundup

After a loved up Valentine’s theme last week (read here) matching businesses with their needs and sending valentine’s tweets to others. This week we decided to step it up a notch and discuss one of the most important business elements, 'good service'.

In which we asked participants to tell us when they have received or provided an exceptional service to their customers and clients. Either through social media communications or taking an enquiry through to competition in a seamless transition, or even giving a few top tips to others who are starting up.

Our EYorksHour networkers got involved by sharing fantastic examples and recommendations of companies they've received #goodservice from.

Here are a few favourites, highlighting their main factors of #goodservice:

@MaruMarket: Last Thurs we had no Tuna Steak->Solution we delivered Tuna on Fri for free. Does that count as #Goodservice#EYorksHour

@Art_LBroadbent: The #goldenrule 'The customer is always right' because without them you don't have a #business' #goodservice
#EYorksHour

@pierce_jo: I had great service today from @BLAEastRiding registering @kickstartTYACS #personaltouchmatters #EYorksHour

@SwannAutomotiveWe provide a free collection & delivery service,we're honest & talk to our customers using non-technical jargon #EYorksHour

@faulkner_darren: Top of my list for great social media communication coupled with great service is @Sewell_Retail @ExelbyFoods @golddenchain :-)

#EYorksHour | 11th Feb | Roundup

On Tuesday, @EYorksHour HQ became a virtual cupid casting our bow and arrow across the twitter-sphere between 8pm and 9pm to help participants share their love for favourite local businesses and find a perfect match for their business need’s.

Putting a twist on Valentine’s day triggered a whole host of loved up delights with tweet exchanges, match making, special offers and even good news!

Highlights

Earlier in the day, the Hull Daily Mail published two fantastic articles about local charities @KickstartTYACS and @DaisyAppeal which we couldn't resist sharing.

As avid supporters of Kickstart, we reported their news of receiving charitable status in last week’s round up but we were extremely happy to see founder Jo Pierce smiling in this piece written by @lucy_leeson

The Daisy Appeal made an announcement in their feature about the new PET-CT scanner that they’ve funded at Castle Hill Hospital to help patients with life threatening illnesses. The scanner is the first of it’s kind in the UK and will be available to patients in April.

You can read more here:

Other good news of the night came from @SwannAutomotive who successfully launched their first #MotorHour on Monday with the aim to engage the UK Motor Trade with everyone, not just petrol heads. Between 9pm  - 10pm they received a great amount of interaction and their hashtag was trending too! Congratulations Swann Automotive and good luck for next week!

@emilys_events came up with a great idea for #EYorksHour participants to team up and make a sample hamper of products from local businesses to auction and raise funds for charity. @EcoClean4Good and @YorkshireAles were quick to offer a donation for the hamper (thank you), so if you would like to donate a sample, voucher or gift for the #EYorksHour charity hamper then please tweet @EYorksHour or email eyorkshour@gmail.com. Lets add to our networking goodness by helping a local cause.

Towards the end of the hour, we were joined by @Specials_ERY with their Valentines Day scam advice, which applies all year round and you can read their tips here: http://bit.ly/1bjJKTu

Are you a match made in EYorksHour heaven?

Part of this weeks theme was to identify a local business need and tweet it during #EYorksHour so that we could find a match together. These are the listings we were tweeted, are you a match?

  1. @Octagon_events would love to be #matched with businesses who are looking for help with their event logistics.
  2. @gorgeouscottage are looking for more gorgeous cottages to be #matched with.
  3. @alicrompton needs to be #matched with marquee quotes
  4. @DavidStoneYorks is looking for a #match to set up a totally locally Bridlington twitter account.
  5. @EcoClean4Good love #matching with companies who want to try a free sample of their multi-purpose cleaner
  6. @emilys_events are always looking to #match up lovely boutiques or designers to showcase at their events
  7. @RMPSLetting would like to be #matched with a company who specialise in roller black out blinds for a quote asap.
  8. @Reindesgouters are looking to #match with restaurants and bars who would like to taste their selection of French, organic wines.

EYorksHour success

Since #EYorksHour had a re-gig three weeks ago with a new administrator, logo and background, it’s also been noticed by participants that the hour has taken a new direction and this is based around our aim to grow the network of East Yorkshire.

We want to engage the local businesses in all of East Yorkshire’s towns and villages and hope that the participants will welcome them in doing so. Each week there is a theme designed to give everyone the same networking agenda whilst getting to know the person tweeting above or below them.

Please use the hour to join in and get involved in the theme,  because you will be surprised at the successes, as were we this week!

  1. @RMPSLetting joined in with #EYorksHour last week and were introduced to @KickstartTYACS, from this they are now meeting to discuss how they can support the charity - which is a great Valentines match and a real success for#EYorksHour
  2. #EYorksHour administrator @Krissie_Akrill placed an order with @HullFlorist after they were recommended the week before as a #Hiddengem and was delighted with the bouquet that was delivered to her friend.
This shows just how worthwhile it is to get involved in the conversations and introduce others to the hour. Have you had any success after tweeting during #EYorksHour? If so, please let us know!

Interesting fact:

Did you know that @BLAEastRiding have an app named ‘Big local app’ which is free to download and features news, info, entertainment and business listings in East Yorkshire. You can find out more and download the app here:

Valentines

Join us tonight as we get into the spirit of Valentine’s for another round of #EYorksHour.

Last week was all about the #hiddengems of East Yorkshire where participants nominated their treasured places to visit, eat, shop, work out, etc. If you missed it, then he is a roundup of how the night unfolded: http://eyorkshour.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/eyorkshour-4th-feb-roundup.html

As you should know (unless you haven’t left the house or switched on the TV and surfed the internet), this week and in particular Friday 14th, celebrates Valentines Day. A day that evolved in the 18th century into an occasion for which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionary and sending greetings cards (known as ‘valentines’).

For this weeks #EYorksHour we are putting our own twist on the occasion and asking participants to help each other find their match! Those who need another business help or are looking to connect with companies of a similar nature, we ask you to tweet what you need help with and between us we can match you up with the right candidate.

Just look at us like a virtual cupid as we cast our bow and arrow across the twitter-sphere, coupling up those in need with those who can help!

Are you looking for a local florist?
Do you need a painter and decorator?
How about wanting to donate to a small charity, but don’t know who to choose?
Are you in need of a new wardrobe?
Do you want to connect with a graphic design company?

Join in with #EYorksHour #Valentines tonight and lets network to match your needs!

Here is an example:

“I'm looking for a property to rent in East Yorkshire, can anyone match me with a letting agents that can help? #EYorksHour #Valentines

Then the replies would be to recommend a good match for that ‘need’.

Don’t have a ‘need’ to be matched?

In that case, you can still participate in @EYorksHour by sending a lovely tweet to a business you love and say why, using both hashtags #EYorksHour #Valentines.

Here is an example:

“In the spirit of #valentines I love @EYorksHour because they help me to make connections across East Yorkshire every Tuesday #EYorksHour

Why?.. Because it’s nice to feel loved!

With two options to get involved in tonight’s #EYorkHourall that’s left to do is pop the kettle on, get comfy and tweet along with #EYorksHour at 8pm - 9pm and if you have any questions, then tweet @EYorksHour

Tweet you there!

#EYorksHour | 4th Feb | Roundup

This week we asked our networking participants to help us find East Yorkshire’s hidden gems, with an aim to grow the network of #EYorksHour and provide a few ‘shout out’s’ to the treasured places we like to visit, eat, shop, work out, be entertained and even do business.

Many joined in using the hashtags #EYorksHour and #hiddengem and made their recommendations, which in turn sparked up some interesting conversations and a few bonus thank you tweets from their chosen gems.

Now, if there was an award or two for the top contributors of this weeks theme, they would go to @pierce_jo and @RPMSLetting. Both tweeters took on the challenge and nominated a considerable amount of East Yorkshire delights, which demonstrates great networking etiquette and deserves a virtual high five for doing so!

Here is a list of their hidden gems:

@cottinghamparks @cobieatkin @MarkThompsonPGA @tristanbuttle @jessicajo_uk @harpersbizarres @oswellnrose @Theangelshare @TheShedBeverley @Camdenscloset @LilBirdBoutique @thebreadshed @WhiteRabbitChoc

You can also search for more of East Yorkshire’s hidden gems through the Welcome to Yorkshire website: http://www.yorkshire.com/places/east-yorkshire

This is what they had to say about East Yorkshire:

“ From the cosmopolitan city of Hull to the undulating hills and valleys of the Yorkshire Wolds, East Yorkshire is wonderfully eclectic. At its heart lies a serene landscape of swirling grasslands, mediaeval towns, manor houses and Bronze Age ruins that remains refreshingly unchanged. Yet travel further North and the vibrant energy and heritage of the Humber rushes to greet you.

Slightly off the subject of hidden gems but focusing more on our networking powers, East Riding College are currently looking for businesses to provide creative student placements based around graphic design, filming, editing, audio, radio, photo, advertising, gaming and interactive media. Please tweet @Eastridingmedia if you can help.

Congratulations also to Kickstart Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Support who have officially become a registered charity this week after their first six months of fundraising to provide young cancer sufferers in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire with funding and grants for activities, workshops, seminars and events. If you would like to support Kickstart TYACS, or know someone who could benefit from a Kickstart, then please check out their website: www.kickstartcancersupport.com or tweet them @KickstartTYACS

#Spotlight60

What is #Spotlight60?

#Spotlight60 is all about giving a focus point for the twitter accounts that need a helping hand, the hidden treasures, a business you most definitely need to know about or someone who is new to the networking hour.

During the first minute of #EYorksHour, one twitter account will be in the spotlight for participants to tweet them and find out as much as they can.

For example: If a local gym was in the spotlight, at 8pm @EYorksHour will announce that tonights spotlight is @localgym and the participants involved in #EYorksHour have 60 seconds to ask as many questions as they can using #EYorksHour #spotlight60.

The remaining 59 minutes of the hour will continue as normal, based around that weeks theme. In addition, @EYorksHour will interview the spotlight (behind the scenes) to gain background information and some quirky answers to share on the day of their 60 seconds of intense networking.

To be sent further information, including some FAQ's, please email eyorkshour@gmail.com

Could you benefit from a 60 second spotlight? Get in touch and we can schedule you in.

Hidden gems

Welcome back to East Yorkshire Hour,

We hope that you enjoyed our last #EYorksHour session, but if you missed it then you can read a roundup here: http://eyorkshour.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/28januaryroundup.html

Last week we spoke about ‘New starts’ with conversations around new projects, services, start up businesses, events and of course what’s new for 2014.

Behind the scenes we’ve been digging out and following twitter accounts from across East Yorkshire to help grow our network and make #EYorksHour even more beneficial for the people who participate.

Therefore tonight, our theme is ‘Hidden gems’ and want your help to find the businesses that are based  in the many towns and villages of East Yorkshire.

Can you recommend a local boutique?
Is there a coffee shop nestled in the village where you live?
Are you a small business situated in one of the rural towns?
Tell us about some of your favourite places to visit in #EYorksHour

Feel free to join in the conversation using #EYorksHour

A little more info about East Yorkshire

Excluding Kingston upon Hull there are several areas of settlement, each giving rise to distinctive types of small to medium-sized towns and villages. Cottingham and Willerby are exceptional in that they are suburban villages which are almost contiguous with the Hull urban area. Bridlington is the most populous of the coastal settlements, which also include Flamborough, Hornsea, Withernsea and Aldbrough. Towns and villages on the flat agricultural area of Holderness are Hedon and Roos, and nestling in the Great Wold Valley is Rudston. Along the eastern foot of the Wolds lie Beverley, Bishop Burton, Driffield and Lockington. In the low-lying lands close to the Humber Estuary are Goole, Brough, North Ferriby, Hessle and Kirk Ella. Stamford Bridge, Pocklington, Market Weighton, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, Howden and South Cave all lie to the north and west of the area, between the River Derwent and the scarp slope of the Wolds.

Please pop the kettle on, get comfy and tweet along with #EYorksHour and if you have any questions, then tweet @EYorksHour

Tweet you there!
